James Surls is an accomplished East Texas born artist living and producing work in Colorado’s Roaring Fork Valley.
As reminders of the temporal nature of life, Surls’ works seem anxiously suspended between spirituality and doubt, balance and chaos. Associations occur across and between symbols, functioning more like a dream remembered. By and large, the pieces betray a penetrating and evolving awareness of the way natural forms impinge upon each other and upon us.
